Hilde Herrema, PhD
Hilde Herrema is a medical biologist with specific molecular and systemic expertise on development of cardiometabolic diseases in obesity,
in particular diabetes and fatty liver disease. After her postdoc at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), she joined the group of Prof. Nieuwdorp (AMC) to study the role of the gut microbiome in the complex pathophysiology of diabetes and fatty liver disease. She is currently junior group leader and uses a translational and multidisciplinary approach to study cardiometabolic disease development, with a particular focus on gut bacteriophages (viruses of bacteria) and their role in gut microbiome function and human health.
