SUMMARY:RPA-PMH closing event & AMEC day
DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite you to join a day dedicated to exchange\, inspiration\, and collaboration! On Thursday\, 12 February 2026 the interdisciplinary RPA Personal Microbiome Health (PMH) of the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Microbiome Expertise Center will host a joint event focused on interdisciplinary collaboration in microbiome science.\n\nYou are welcome to join the morning\, the afternoon\, or the full day: for registration see below\n\nLocation:\nRoyal Artis Zoo\, Plantage Middenlaan 41-43\, Amsterdam.\n\nProgram:\n9.00\nArrival\, registration\, and coffee\n\n9:30-12:30\nRPA-PMH morning program\nInterdisciplinary research on microbiome and human health\nThe RPA-PMH is reaching its conclusion after five years. To mark this milestone\, the morning session will feature presentations from researchers with experience in interdisciplinary and/or citizen science projects in microbiome research. They will share insights\, challenges\, and practical recommendations followed by an interactive discussion:\n\n\nSarah Ahannach (University of Antwerp)\n\n\nMore information will follow \n\n\nVanessa Harris (Amsterdam UMC)\n\n\nMore information will follow \n\nGeert Roelof van der Ploeg (Simula)\n\nMore information will follow \n  \n\n\nBeth Greenhough (School of Geography and the Environment\, University of Oxford)\n\n\n\nInterdisciplinarity in social\, biomedical and microbiome research: Coproduction\, creativity and compromise\n\nBeth Greenhough is Professor of Human Geography and Fellow of Keble College at the University of Oxford. Working at the interface of society and the biosciences\, she explores the ways in which humans\, animals and their derivatives become the subjects of biomedical research\, and how in turn this opens-up opportunities for Public and Patient Engagement and Involvement (PPIE). Previous projects have examined the social and cultural dimensions of biobanking\, microbiome research\, animal research and chronic illness. She is a co-author of Bodies Across Borders (Ashgate\, 2015)\, Health Geographies: A Critical Introduction (Wiley-Blackwell\, 2017)\, Bioinformation (Polity\, 2017) and Researching Animal Research (MUP\, 2024) \nThis talk will provide a brief overview of some of my work at the interface of Science and Technology Studies (STS)\, biomedicine and Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE). I’ll describe some of the tools and techniques we used to facilitate research design and data collection within interdisciplinary teams\, including the use of agenda-setting exercises\, participatory metagenomics and creative methods. I’ll also outline theories of coproduction and how these inform the way we approach research collaborations. In closing\, I’ll draw out some of the challenges we faced\, and the compromises which enabled us to move forward. \n\n\n\n12:30-14:00\n\nLunch and poster session \n14:00-16:30 \n\nAMEC afternoon program\nAmsterdam Microbiome Expertise Center (AMEC) Day\nFollowing the first edition focusing on ‘Who is AMEC?’\, we shift to an interactive format and look ahead: ‘What should AMEC become for science\, society and partners?’ This session is designed for active participation and exchange across the AMEC network and beyond. It will result in AMEC’s agenda for the coming years. Through a World Café setup\, participants will explore how AMEC can facilitate:\n\n\nSharing exciting science\, including new microbiome insights and citizen-science initiatives. How can we exchange and collaborate? (Introduced by Prof. Sahar el Aidy)\n\n\nCollaboration with industry\, informed by company perspectives and needs (Unilever\, Seed companies and more)\n\n\nKnowledge sharing across education\, PhDs and lifelong learning (introduced by Prof. Stanley Brul)\n\n\n\n16:30-17:30 \nDrinks and networking\n\n\nRegistration is now open!\nWe hope you will join us\, and we encourage you to share this announcement with anyone who might be interested. Please note that capacity and poster space is limited\, so we kindly ask you to register in time and indicate which part(s) of the day you wish to attend and if you want to present a poster.\n\nRPA × AMEC Day:  Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Microbiome Science  – Formulier invullen
